Top 5 KO’s of the Year!

As the year draws to a close, we take a look at the Top 5 KOs of 2022! Do you have a favourite? Any KO you would’ve added? Results disclosed.

With thousands of fights across dozens of leagues, it’s hard to pick out the best KOs of the year. But a few stand out and have caught the attention of fight fans globally. Here are the top 5 KOs of 2022.

1. Leon Edwards vs Kamaru Usman

The Welterweight king, Kamaru Usman, vowed to defend his title as he stepped into the octagon to face Leon Edwards for the second time in his career. Following a spectacular KO of Jorge Masvidal last year, Usman was seen by many as the pound-for-pound champion of the world. Edwards, the underdog, was unfazed and stepped in to face the undefeated champ exuding serenity as he did so. With a perfectly timed head kick, Edwards sent the reigning champion to sleep and claimed the title he had long coveted. For this beauty, he must rank highest this year.

2. Michael Chandler vs Tony Ferguson

Despite not having stacked many W’s in his scorecard this year, Chandler has delivered some phenomenal fights with numerous highlight reels. Facing the always-entertaining Tony Ferguson at UFC 274 in May we knew we were in for a fun night. Chandler, who has hitherto failed to claim the Lightweight title in the UFC, executed a front kick to the face to perfection, creating perhaps the most memorable meme from the UFC of this year. Take a look below!

3. Johnny Walker vs Jamahal Hill

Although not a UFC regular event, but rather a UFC Fight Night, the third top KO of the year came when Jamahal Hill won via TKO against Johnny Walker with an overhand right in the first round. With this win and a flawless 2022, Hill has earned himself a title shot in the new year. He faces Glover Teixeira for the vacant UFC Light Heavyweight Championship on January 21st.

4. Molly McCann vs Luana Carolina

Molly McCann lived up to the hype on home front this year, delivering TWO spinning back elbow TKO no less. Her first such KO came in London at the O2 arena, defeating Luana Carolina after utilising the spinning back elbow in the third round. She did so again against Hannah Goldy in front of the same crowd. For this reason, she makes it to the top KO list, although the hype was delivered a severe blow after her most recent fight where she lost to Erin Blanchfield by submission.

5. Derrick Lewis vs Tai Tuivasa

The heavyweight division is always one Hail Mary away from changing champions and generating alternative endings to fights. The power packed by a heavyweight fist is no laughing matter and is a delight to watch for fight fans. No better example of this can be found this year than Tai Tuivasa’s KO of Derrick Lewis.
