Going into this weekend, here are some events to keep an eye on: UFC Fight Night, Judo Grand Slam, ONE 158, and Haney vs Kambosos Jr.
ONE 158
Featuring two important fights with World Title implications topping the card, ONE 158: Tawanchai vs. Larsen promises to be an action-packed event not to be missed. We spoke to Larsen ahead of his ONE debut, who in the main event faces Muay Thai superstar Tawanchai PK.Saenchai. Larsen, the WBC Muay Thai World Champion, takes on Tawanchai for a chance to comepte against Petchmorakot Petchyindee’s, for his ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World TItle. The Dane spoke of his excitement ahead of the bout and spoke of ‘The Art of Eight Limbs” in aesthetic terms, which means we can hope to see the art at its finest.
ONE 158 will also see great bantamweight MMA action, when number two-ranked Kwon Won Il battles number 4 contender Fabricio Andrade to see who steps closer to meeting reigning kingpin John Lineker.
The evenet is live today, Friday, on YouTube.
JUDO GRAND SLAM TBILISI
The World Judo Tour continues, now arriving in Tbilisi, Georgia. The event is live on YouTube over the weekend. The President of the International Judo Federation, Marius L. Vizer, said in a press statement:
This World Judo Tour event will always be a highlight on the calendar, with the energy of the Georgian team leading the enjoyment and engagement for athletes and coaches arriving in Georgia and also for the many spectators around the world tuning in online. Passion, hospitality and excitement are always at the forefront here!
The 2022 edition will have big points on offer and undoubtedly the world’s best judoka will travel for the opportunity to jostle for position in the world rankings, as we step closer to the Olympic qualification period for Paris 2024.
UFC FIGHT NIGHT: VOLKOV VS ROZENSTRUIK
UFC heavyweights Alexander Volkov and Jair Rozenstruik face off for a bout of titans, both coming out of losses. Two veterans, the fight will be surely be one to follow. Volkov has height to his advantage, but often seems limited to striking. Rozenstruik is a kickboxer of high calibre, so for those looking to place a bet I would favour the more all-round Rozenstruik, although with the heavyweights all it takes is a Hail Mary punch to change the outcome, and the odds are currently in favour of Volkov.
Dan Ige returns to the octagon facing Movsar Evloev in a featherweight bout. Ige has lost his last two bouts, while Evloev is still undefeated. Will Ige reverse his current losing streak, or will Evloev continue undefeated? Ige is experienced and has fought some of the best in the division, defeating Edson Barboza. Either way, UFC Fight Night will surely be somethign to watch following last weeks absence of the UFC. More about the card can be found here.
HANEY VS KAMBOSOS JR
Saturday will see Devin Haney face Goerge Kambosos for the undisputed lightweight championship. After heated exchanges at the press-conference, the two undefeated fighters face-off in Kambosos’s home country, in Melbourne Australia. Kambosos defeted Teofimo Lopez and won the WBO/IBF/WBA titles after an upset victory, with him being a 6-1 underdog. Nevertheless, he took the W and now faces the 23-year old WBC champion Haney for the undisputed title.
